I’m late! I’m late! For a very important Date!

This… :(

This is what frustration looks like. Because I let pressure and opinions get to me, this is what our Sunday morning looked like. This is NOT how I want to walk into the House of God looking (and feeling) like. I’ve been teased a lot lately by others about showing up to church late on Sunday mornings. Usually we arrive in the middle or end of my husband doing the announcements and usually get noticed. You see, my husband leaves the house around 8am to teach Sunday School and prepare for opening up the service. So for the past 6 months or so, I’ve been getting myself and our 2yr old son ready and to church. Now granted… we literally live only 2min from our church, so you’d think “You have no reason to be late almost every Sunday!!” But hear me out- STUFF HAPPENS! Our son doesn’t go to a daycare or anything during the week, so he wakes up at his leisure every morning. He doesn’t have a strict bedtime or wake up routine. Most of you would suggest just waking him up early, and sometimes we will for different events. But for the most part we don’t. I know my child and I know he’s a little more difficult to handle when he gets woken up or not enough sleep. Also… stuff happens! I usually get myself up AT LEAST 2hrs before church and usually have enough time to get myself showered, dressed and ready. My son will then get up 45-60min before church to eat breakfast and get dressed (which I normally have all out and waiting on him). But stuff ALWAYS happens! Messes are made, tantrums are thrown, pee ends up all over the bathroom floor, and the dog still needs to get fed. So today I RUSHED! I I left the cheerios on the floor, the spilt smoothie on the books, I yelled at my son more than I ever want to and I still forgot to feed the dog-all because I let the opinion and pressure of others get to me. I’m not one to rush my son. I usually have good patience because I know he’s learning and developing constantly. I take DELIGHT in watching him do it on his own. And I believe this patience and calmness I usually have is what keeps our home peaceful. But today I let other people and opinions get to me. I let THEM decide how I was going to react today.

But today I also learned a lesson… I will no longer allow people make me feel pressured enough to make bad decisions, even though they ALL had good intentions. I never want my son to feel like mommy’s mad at him and I never want to walk into church feeling so burdened and heavy. I will continue to try and find ways to get there early (or at least on time) but I will also not sacrifice my peace or patience. Because I STILL wasn't on time this past Sunday! Oy!
